Obie Xmas

We've mentioned it a couple times, and we think it's about time we explained what this Obie Xmas thing is all about.  Obie Xmas is the day we got to take Oberon home, December 9.  We named it such because Obie's nurse that day was our personal Santa and gave us bags and bags of things we needed to take care of our little bug.

Strapped in and ready to go home!

These bags included:
  • Diapers
  • Dry wipes
  • Saline wipes
  • Diaper cream
  • Thermometers
  • Stethoscope
  • Hat
  • Socks
  • NG tubes
  • Adhesive remover
  • Skin protector
  • Skin tape
  • Cloth tape
  • Syringes
  • Ice packs to keep his milk frozen
  • Similac (Abbott shout out!)
  • Baby soap
  • Hairbrushes
Oberon's nurse was so helpful getting together things to take care of him that we immediately called it Obie Xmas.  Her help made it so we didn't need to worry about getting supplies for a few days (and for some items - weeks!).

Taking care of Obie at home.

We quickly decided that we will be celebrating Obie Xmas every year on December 9.  Ways to celebrate Obie Xmas for us (and for you if you choose to) include:
  • Gifts of things we need to take care of ourselves - especially underthings, soap, and nutritious food
  • Donations to organizations that give out things people need (such as Sacred Heart in San Jose, or a food bank
  • Donations to organizations that give medical care - especially to kids (such as a children's hospital, Doctors Without Borders, or UNICEF )
Obie Xmas gifts can be in their own special place, under a tree, or in a stocking.  If you do make any donations to celebrate Obie Xmas, please consider making the gift in his honor or just letting us know about it.  We love (and will continue to love) hearing about generosity inspired by our Obear.  Remember, donations make Obie smile.
